Here are 10 things you should know about your credit! 2. Pull your credit report! 79% of all credit reports have mistakes. The website address for your free annual report is www.AnnualCreditReport.com. 3. Obtaining your own credit report does not negatively impact your score. A personal credit report can be pulled free of charge once per year. We recommend pulling your score every six months. 4. Never allow your credit card balances to exceed 35% of your credit line. 5. You should try to maintain three open bank cards (credit cards). 6. Always keep a small balance on each card to earn positive points. Keep a balance of $1 - $99 (assuming the balance is less than 35% of your open lines). 7. The reason your three scores may be different is that not all creditors report to the same bureaus: TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax. 8. To stop receiving "pre-approved" offers from credit card and insurance companies you can "Opt Out" by calling 1-888-5OPT-OUT or www.OptOutPrescreen.com. This will stop companies from pulling your credit report without your authorization. 9. You have 45 days to shop for the best rate for a home auto or school loan before it will start to count as more than one inquiry. 10. Your credit history is counted as 35% of your total score according to FICO.
