Go and See Beautiful: The Carole King Musical!

Hi it’s Leslie Harris, and Friday night I attended the opening of Beautiful, the Carole King musical at the spectacular Paramount Theater in Aurora. I know several people who have gone to see this show, and every one of them has loved it!

We meet young Carole at the age of 16, and she already knows that she wants to be a songwriter. But girls can’t do that, especially teenage girls!
Carole proved them all wrong, and through tenacity, talent and a little bit of luck, and we know that Carol went on to become one of the most prolific songwriters of the ’50s, 60s and 70s. She met her first songwriting partner, Gerry Goffin when she a teenager, and went on to marry him and write dozens of songs with him. Did you know that she wrote or co-wrote 118 songs that landed on the Billboard top 100?
So many of those great songs are included here, like, Will You Love me Tomorrow? The Locomotion, Pleasant Valley Sunday, and You’ve Got a Friend.
But things were not always rosy for young Carole. We learn about the tragic breakup of her marriage to Gerry, but also of Carol’s triumphant rebirth as a singer-songwriter.
You’ll be cheering for Carole, and singing along throughout the show.
